I see
Aromatherapy as a boost - an addition to whatever else is working in
your life and perhaps a quiet way to explore areas where you feel a
change might be desired. While essential oils are not medicine, they
can definitely affect the quality of our lives in a very positive and
direct way.
Our sense of smell is our most primal sense and the one most closely connected to our brain - it links directly into the area of the brain where our emotions and our memories are stored. That is why the scent of cookies baking makes our mouths water and why we can feel our bodies stiffen when we encounter the fragrance worn by someone who troubled our past. The very scent returns us to a place or time, and we have a physical and emotional reaction.
Pure essential oils are nature's gift to us and are filled with the energy derived from the particular plant or flower. While the oils affect us physically and can be a gentle remedy for what ails us, many essential oils are also very healing emotionally, allowing us a new insight of past issues long locked into place. They can then be used to anchor the new behavior we desire to add to our lives.
Essential oils can naturally lull us to sleep and then perk us up at that 3 PM slump. They are excellent for relaxing a tense toddler and can help lift our spirits when we're feeling a bit blue. Spiritually, they can assist in meditation and centering our soul amidst a world that sometimes seems chaotic. Essential oils can help revive romance or soothe a broken heart. The list is endless and fascinating
